#25 Rock stays unbeaten, downs UPJ 3-0

No. 25 Slippery Rock remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Tuesday evening.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The 25th-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team remained undefeated on the year with a 3-0 win on the road at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Tuesday afternoon.

The Rock moved into the national rankings at No. 25 in a release from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America just a few hours before kickoff and improved to 3-0-2 on the season with the win. Pitt-Johnstown drops to 0-4-0.

Slippery Rock was dominant in the opening period, posting a 15-4 advantage in total shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The Rock took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal from Michael Ramirez in the 38th minute.

The second half was more even statistically, with SRU posting advantages of 7-6 in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks, but goals from Mike Roopchandsingh and Ryan Lutke pushed the advantage out while The Rock defense kept the Mountain Cats off the board.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 22-10 in total shots, 6-3 in shots on goal and 7-2 in corner kicks.

Clayton Master earned the win in goal for SRU after recording three saves for his second straight shutout. Eddie Stover took the loss for UPJ after allowing three goals and recording three saves.

Ramirez got the game's scoring started with his second goal of the year at the 37:50 mark when he scored off a cross from Chris Davis to account for the only goal of the opening half.

Roopchandsingh put Slippery Rock up 2-0 with his second tally of the year in the 53rd minute when he finished a through ball from Stephen Donnelly.

The game's final goal came in the 85th minute when Lutke notched his first career goal from the top of the box after converting an assist from Peter Boylan.

Pitt-Johnstown managed just one shot on net in the final 45 minutes.

Slippery Rock will kick off a six-game homestand when it returns to action Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against Urbana at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The Rock will not play another road game until an Oct. 6 showdown at East Stroudsburg.
