Rock blanks West Chester, 2-0

Slippery Rock scored two early goals and held West Chester off the board for its third straight shutout, a 2-0 win on the road Tuesday.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 win on the road at West Chester University Tuesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 6-2-5 overall and 2-2-2 in PSAC games. West Chester falls to 3-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league action.

The Rock got goals from Chris Davis and Stephen Donnelly less than a minute apart early in the first half and held the Golden Rams off the scoreboard for their third consecutive shutout.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 12-11 in total shots and 6-5 in shots on goal, while West Chester managed an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week Clayton Master made four saves in goal for Slippery Rock to earn his third shutout of the year. Cameron Schenkel, making his first collegiate start, was also credited with a defensive save early in the game that kept it scoreless at the time.

Garrett Bleiler took the loss in goal for the Golden Rams, allowing two goals and recording four saves.

Davis opened the game's scoring in the 23rd minute when he found the net for his fourth goal of the season to make it 1-0 Slippery Rock.

Just 57 seconds later, Donnelly scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year to make it 2-0 Slippery Rock, a margin that would stand for the final 66 minutes of play.

Slippery Rock returns home Saturday to host Millersville in a PSAC game at Egli Field at 1 p.m. The Rock will close the home portion of its schedule next Tuesday against Lake Erie College at 7 p.m. before closing the regular season with three road games.
