Rock travels to ESU Saturday night

Slippery Rock will hit the road for the first time since Sept. 11 with a trip to East Stroudsburg Saturday night.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team will travel to East Stroudsburg Saturday night for an 8:30 p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 5-2-4 overall record and a 1-2-1 mark in PSAC games. The Rock is coming off its fourth double overtime tie of the season, 0-0 against Bloomsburg Wednesday.

Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 24-13 and outshooting the opposition 193-133. The Rock scored just 24 goals in 17 games last year. Stephen Donnelly and Michael Ramirez lead the team with four goals and one assist each, while Chris Davis has three goals and one assist. Mike Roopchandsingh has two goals and three assists, Brandon Chiu and Joshua Gray each have two goals and two assists and Ryan Lutke and Max Aronica each have two goals to cap the leading scorers.

Clayton Master has started 10 games in goal for SRU and is 4-2-4 with three shutouts. He has allowed 11 goals for a goals against average of 1.02 and has made 41 saves for a .788 save percentage. Joe Agerskow has started one game and is 1-0, has allowed two goals for a 1.73 goals against average and has made five saves for a .714 save percent.

Scouting the Warriors: East Stroudsburg is 3-7 overall and 0-3 in PSAC play. The Warriors are being outscored 16-15, but are outshooting their opponents 128-83.

Nick Fischer leads the team with five goals and one assist, followed by Nemanja Nikolic with two goals and two assists, Wesley Fossile with two goals and one assist and Jonathan Stuppe with two goals. Denis Loboda has one goal and two assists, Greg Schook adds one goal and one assist and Daniel Snyder has one goal to cap the goal scorers.

Callum Hampson has played the majority of minutes in goal and is 3-4 with a 1.73 goals against average and a .560 save percentage. Ryan Nosti is 0-3 with a 1.27 goals against average and a .500 save percentage.

Head Coaches: Michael Bonelli is in his third season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. Bonelli has posted a record of 23-17-7 in his three seasons, including an 11-7-1 mark and a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs in 2010. Prior to his time at SRU, Bonelli spent five seasons as an assistant coach at the Division I level, with stints at Northwestern and Lafayette. He received a bachelor's degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland in 2004.

Rob Berkowitz is in his second season as the head coach of both the men's and women's soccer teams at ESU. He has been the women's coach for six years and added the men's team last fall. He owns a 8-15-4 overall record as the men's coach. Berkowitz is a 1997 graduate of LIU Southampton Colege.

Series History: East Stroudsburg owns a 19-5 edge in the all-time series, including a 2-1 win last season in Slippery Rock.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 9-7 in total shots and 6-2 in corner kicks. ESU posted a 5-3 edge in shots on goal

Chris Hall scored the lone goal for SRU off an assist from Brandon Chiu. Timothy White took the loss in goal for SRU with three saves. Sean Murphy earned the win with two saves for ESU.
