SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team settled for its fourth double overtime tie of the season Wednesday after playing to a scoreless draw with Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at James Egli Field.
With the tie, Slippery Rock moves to 5-2-4 overall and 1-3-1 in PSAC games. Bloomsburg moves to 5-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.
Bloomsburg opened the game with a slight advantage in possession over the opening 45 minutes, outshooting SRU 6-2 in total attempts and 3-0 in shots on goal.
Things were much more even in the second half, with both teams generating chances, but neither team able to capitalize. The Huskies earned slim advantages of 7-6 in total shots and 4-3 in shots on goal.
Slippery Rock held the upper hand in the overtime sessions, but could not convert. The best chance came in the second extra session when
Stephen Donnelly and
Joshua Gray were on a breakaway, but the Bloomsburg defense was able to retreat in time to keep the shutout in tact. The Rock posted a 4-0 edge in total shots and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks in the final extra session.
For the game, Bloomsburg finished with a 15-14 advantage in total shots, a 7-5 edge in shots on goal and an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks
Clayton Master made seven saves for Slippery Rock to earn the shutout, while Ramon Lobo, Jr. made five saves in goal for Bloomsburg.
Donnelly led all players in the game with seven total shots, including three on target.
Wednesday's game marked the sixth consecutive home for Slippery Rock, which will travel to East Stroudsburg Saturday night for a PSAC match, its first road trip since Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m.
