CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The 12th-ranked California University (Pa.) men's soccer team scored in the 22nd minute and held off Slippery Rock to earn a 1-0 win in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match Friday evening.
California (6-0-1, 1-0-0 PSAC) got the lone goal of the match at the 21:39 mark when Djamel Boudhar scored off an assist from Paul Silverstone. The Rock (2-2-0, 1-1-0 PSAC) matched the Vulcans in shots on target, but could not find an equalizer.
Stephen Donnelly, playing in his first game at SRU, sailed a shot wide of the goal in the 89th minute in what was Slippery Rock's last chance.
The Vulcans finished the game with a 9-6 edge in total shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, while each team finished with three shots on goal.
Charlie Dagnal earned the shutout in goal for California, stopping three shots.
Timothy White took the loss for SRU, allowing one goal and recording two saves.
Slippery Rock will look to bounce back when it travels to defending PSAC champion Shippensburg tomorrow for a 6:30 p.m. match. That game will be a rematch of last season's PSAC semifinals, in which the Raiders came away with a 5-0 win.
