Rock falls 26-5 at #2 Lock Haven

The Rock women's lacrosse team dropped a 26-5 decision Wednesday at No. 2 Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped a 26-5 decision at No. 2 Lock Haven Wednesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division match.

The second-ranked Lady Eagles (14-0, 9-0 PSAC) scored the first three goals of the game and jumped out to a 13-2 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. A lightning storm in the area forced a lengthy delay with just over six minutes to play in the first half and when play resumed, Lock Haven closed out the half with a 17-3 lead.

The Rock (7-9, 2-7 PSAC) kept things closer in the second half, but Lock Haven still managed to hold a 9-2 advantage to close out the game with the 26-5 win.

SRU was led by Emma VanDenburg with one goal and one assist, while Amy Halls, Alexis Slutsky, Casey Quinn and Jami Meirick each scored one goal.

Quinn led the team with five draw controls and four ground balls, while Candice Mack led the defense with two caused turnovers.

Ashley Winkelspecht took the loss in goal, allowing 26 goals and recording eight saves. Her eight saves give her 814 career saves and move her into third on the all-time career saves ledger in PSAC history.

Lock Haven was led by an 11-point effort from Leigh Titus, who scored nine goals and handed out two assists. Allison Berger scored five goals and handed out three assists and Kayleigh Johnson and Katie Smyth each scored three goals and had three assists.

Kira Nutall earned the win, allowing three goals and recording one save in the first half. Heather Sacko played the second half, allowing two goals and recording three saves.

For the game, Lock Haven finished with advantages of 41-12 in total shots, 30-19 in ground balls and 21-12 in draw controls.

The Rock will return home for the final game of the 2010 season Saturday when No. 8 Gannon visits Thompson Stadium for a 1 p.m. match. A ceremony to honor SRU senior Ashley Winkelspecht will be held prior to the game.
