TIFFIN, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University lacrosse team dropped Tiffin, 17-7, on the road Saturday to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Rock got three goal performances from
Ariel Knox,
Amy Halls and
Alexis Slutsky and multi-point games from
Emma VanDenburg,
Katie Roof,
Casey Quinn and
Alison Rusnak.
Tiffin's (0-4) Allyn Saling scored the first goal of the game just 1:06 into the contest, converting on an assist from Ali Quast to put her team up 1-0.
Slippery Rock responded by scoring the next eight goals to take an 8-1 lead. Tiffin broke the scoring run with back-to-back goals with 4:27 and 2:03 to play, but The Rock answered right back with two goals in the final two minutes to lead 10-3 at the break.
SRU continued that run at the start of the second half, scoring the first six goals of the half for its second eight-goal run of the game, and opening up a 16-3 lead with just over 13 minutes to play.
Sailing scored three goals in the final six minutes against Rock backup goalkeeper
Danielle Gonzales, who played the final 12:50 of the game in relief of
Ashley Winkelspecht.
Winkelspecht picked up the win, her third of the season, after allowing three goals and recording nine saves. Gonzales allowed four goals and made six saves.
Knox finished the game with a season-high five points on three goals and two assists. Halls added one assist to her hat trick to finish with four points.
VanDenburg scored a season-high four points on two goals and two assists, while Roof finished with three points (two goals, one assist), four draw controls and one caused turnover. Quinn netted two goals and Rusnak handed out two assists to round out the multi-point scorers.
Samantha Eddy and
Dakota McCoy each scored one goal and
Hannah Bonfiglio picked up one assist to round out the point-scorers for SRU. Eddy added a team-high five draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Sailing finished with a game-high four goals and one assist to lead Tiffin. Cassidy Bartholo, Kelley Miller and Quast each scored one goal.
Jessica Oliver was credited with the loss in goal after allowing 17 goals and making 13 saves.
The Rock finished the game with a 30-22 advantage in shots on goal.
SRU will travel to Edinboro for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division contest Tuesday. First draw is set for 4 p.m. The Rock returns home Thursday, hosting Mercyhurst in a 7 p.m. game at Thompson Stadium.
