SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team upset No.16-ranked California (Pa.), 1-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action Saturday at Egli Field.

Benjamin Lloyd beat his defender down the right hand side and scored his first collegiate goal in the 78th minute, beating the keeper to the near post. The Rock's defense held for the final 12 minutes of the game to seal the win.
The game was tightly contested in the midfield for the first half with only three total shots on goal being recorded, two for Slippery Rock, including one in the first minute, and just one for California (Pa.).
The Rock finished the game with advantages of 10-7 in total shots and 4-2 in shots on goal. The Vulcans were awarded five corner kicks to Slippery Rock's three.
Greg Blum recorded the win and his third shutout of the season for The Rock, playing the full 90 minutes in goal and registering two saves. Blum made a game-changing save on a one-on-one opportunity in the 86th minute that helped shut the door on the game.
Derek Yobbi took the loss for California (Pa.), allowing one goal and recording three saves.
With the win, The Rock improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC-West action. California (Pa.) falls to 3-1 overall and opens league play at 0-1.
The Rock will host West Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Egli Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
