#13 Rock wins thriller at ESU in final minute

Patrick Conley scored the game-winner with just 26 seconds left on the clock to propel the 13th-ranked Rock men's soccer team to its eighth consecutive win, a 1-0 shutout over East Stroudsburg Saturday in PSAC crossover action

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
– The 13th-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team won a thrilling 1-0 decision at East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover contest. The Rock's Patrick Conley scored with 26 seconds remaining to seal the win.

The Rock was awarded a penalty kick 90th minute. Iain Langstone took the shot and hit the post, but the ball rebounded to find the foot of Conley who struck home the game-winner with just 26 seconds left on the clock.

The win increased Slippery Rock's winning streak to eight consecutive games and improved The Rock's overall record to 9-1 this season, continuing the best start in head coach Matt Thompson's eight-year career at Slippery Rock.

East Stroudsburg (4-5-1) played a man down for the final 20 minutes of the game after a red card was issued to Shane McFarlane in the 70th minute.

Greg Blum earned the win and his fifth shutout of the season after allowing no goals and recording six saves. Larry Pokrywa was credited with the loss after allowing one goal and recording seven saves.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 17-16 in total shots, 8-6 in shots on goal and 6-4 in corner kicks.

Slippery Rock will host Lock Haven Wednesday at Egli Field to open the second round of PSAC-West games. The Rock finished the first round of conference action with an unblemished 4-0 record to stand alone atop the conference standings. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and will follow the women's game, slated for a 2 p.m. start time.
