VIENNA, W. Va. –
Jeremy Deighton scored his fourth goal of the season to lead the No. 17-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Ohio Valley Saturday in a non-conference game.
Deighton's tally came in the seventh minute off a double assist from
Benjamin Lloyd and
Mitchell Walters. It stood as the lone goal of the game, giving him his third game-winner of the season.
Greg Blum earned the win in goal and combined with
Timothy White for The Rock's fourth shutout of the season. Blum played a total of 78 minutes and recorded one save. White saw 12 minutes of action and recorded two saves.
The Rock finished the game with advantages of 15-7 in total shots and 6-1 in corner kicks. Shots on goal were even at three for each team.
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 5-1 overall this season. Ohio Valley drops to 1-5.
The Rock will host the University of Charleston (W. Va.) Wednesday, Sept. 16, in a non-conference matchup. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Egli Field.
