#5 Lock Haven tops Rock, 19-3

The Rock laxers return home to Thompson Stadium for a three game homestand starting Thursday night.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.
– The No.5 ranked Lock Haven University women's lacrosse team completed a season sweep of Slippery Rock with a 19-3 win in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division contest at LHU Monday.

The Rock defense was solid at the beginning of the game, holding the Lady Eagles to just three goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Slippery Rock's defense forced 23 turnovers and picked up 32 ground balls in the game, both season highs.

Lock Haven scored first at the 29:13 mark and added two more goals before Emma VanDenburg (pictured above) netted an unassisted goal to bring the score to 3-1.

The Lady Eagles responded with nine unanswered goals before Amy Halls scored off an assist from Casey Quinn with 33 seconds left in the first half, sending the game to halftime with Lock Haven leading 12-2.

LHU scored twice to open the second half before Quinn scored The Rock's final goal with 12:03 to play, bringing the score to 14-3. The Lady Eagles added five goals down the stretch for a 19-3 final.

Quinn's two points led the scoring effort for Slippery Rock. She also finished with team-highs of nine ground balls and four draw controls.

Ashley Winkelspecht was credited with the loss in goal after allowing 19 goals and recording 12 saves in a complete game between the pipes.

Brianne Dishong finished with five ground balls and Chelsey Rovesti added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Heather Sacko was credited with the win for Lock Haven after allowing three goals and recording eight saves. Amber Hoch and Leigh Titus each scored five goals for the Lady Eagles while Kayleigh Johnson scored three goals and added four assists.

Lock Haven finished the game with a 37-13 advantage in total shots and picked up 47 ground balls in the game. The Lady Eagles won 14-of-24 draws and converted on 2-of-7 free position shot attempts. The Rock was 0-for-4 on free position attempts.

With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the PSAC-West. Lock Haven improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

The Rock will return to Thompson Stadium for a three game homestand starting later this week. PSAC-West rival and ninth-ranked Gannon will travel to Slippery Rock Thursday, March 26, for a 7 p.m. contest. The Rock will host Millersville Saturday, March 28, in a PSAC crossover game at 1 p.m. and will host Indiana (Pa.) in a league matchup Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m.
