KUTZTOWN, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season with a 14-9 victory over Kutztown Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover contest at University Field.

The freshmen combination of Casey Quinn and Samantha Eddy combined to score eight goals with Quinn netting five goals and Eddy adding three goals and three assists for a team-high six points.

The only meeting between the two teams prior to Saturday came last season when Kutztown earned a 15-9 victory at Thompson Stadium. The Golden Bears completed their first season of NCAA competition in 2008.

Kutztown opened the scoring just 1:10 into the game when Carrie Healey found the back of the net.

The Rock responded with two goals, the first from Amy Halls just eight seconds later, and the second from Claire Conrad off an assist from Eddy at 27:57.

Kutztown tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at the 27:33 mark but Slippery Rock answered with two more goals to regain a two goal advantage. Halls found the twine unassisted at 26:43 and then assisted Eddy at 25:23. The Rock would add six more goals in the first half to take a 10-5 lead into the intermission.

Kutztown scored twice in the first 30 seconds of the second half but goals by Quinn and Conrad shut the door as The Rock pulled away to a 14-9 win.

Eddy's three goals were one more than her season tally of two entering the game and her three assists were her first helpers of the season.

Quinn, playing in her second game of the season, scored a season-high five goals to add to the three goals she scored in the season opener.

Conrad added three goals and one assist for a season high four point effort. Halls added to her team lead in points with two goals and one assist, bringing her season totals to 14 goals and four assists. Katie Roof also scored for The Rock, netting her eighth goal of the season, and added four ground balls.

Ashley Winkelspecht led the defensive effort and earned the win in goal after recording 14 saves and also picking up four ground balls. Brianne Dishong had team-highs of five caused turnovers and five ground balls and Chelsey Rovesti also had four ground balls to pace The Rock defense.

Healey and Leeann Pica led Kutztown with three goals each. Erin Myers was credited with the loss in goal after allowing 12 goals and recording two saves in 35:29 in net. Alyson Iovacchini allowed two goals and made five saves in the final 24:31.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 2-4 overall. Kutztown drops to 1-5 on the season.
