#13 Rock upends Davis & Elkins, 5-0

The 13th-ranked Rock men's soccer team earned a dominating 5-0 shutout over Davis & Elkins Wednesday in a matchup of two of the top-ranked teams in the Atlantic Region.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The 13th-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team displayed its most dominant performance of the season Wednesday in routing Davis & Elkins by a score of 5-0 in a matchup between two of the top-ranked teams in the Atlantic Region.

Slippery Rock entered Wednesday's game ranked second in the Atlantic Region by the NCAA Division II Selection Committee and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Davis & Elkins, which carried a six-game winning streak into the game, was ranked sixth in the region by the selection committee and fourth in the region by the NSCAA.

The Rock jumped out to an early lead when Jeremy Deighton scored his 15th goal of the season in the second minute of the game, heading in a corner kick from Benjamin Lloyd.

Kenneth Fultz scored his first of two goals in the 32nd minute off an assist from Tynan Smith. Fultz, who took a pass from Smith and went down the right side of the field, beat Senator keeper Timothy O'Toole with a laser of a shot that bent inside the far post. The goal was Fultz's first of the season.

Slippery Rock held a 2-0 lead at the halftime intermission before opening the gates in the second half.

Patrick Conley scored his third goal of the season when he headed the ball into the left side of the net off a double assist from Deighton and Alex Swartz in the 53rd minute.

Fultz scored his second of the game in the 61st minute, unassisted, when he went far post through traffic.

Ryan Pindroh capped the scoring in the 75th minute when he notched his first collegiate goal off an assist from Anthony Paganie.

Greg Blum earned the win in goal for Slippery Rock after playing the first 65:23 of the game and recording one save. Timothy White played the final 24:37 of the game and was credited with one save. Christian McChesney and Conley were each credited with defensive saves during the game.

O'Toole took the loss after allowing three goals and recording two saves in 58:45 in net. Joel Richardson played the final 31:15 and allowed two goals while making two saves.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 13-8 in total shots, 9-4 in shots on goal and 5-2 in corner kicks.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 14-2 overall. Davis & Elkins drops to 11-4.

The Rock is back in action this Saturday when the University of D.C. travels to Egli Field for a 2 p.m. non-conference matchup.
