ASHLAND, Ohio -- Lucas Feathers scored the lone Rock goal Sunday afternoon as the Green and White dropped a 2-1 season-opening decision to hosting Ashland University in non-conference action.
The Rock outshot the Eagles by a 12-9 margin and had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal but could not overcome a pair of early goals by the hosts.
The Rock returns to action Wednesday, when it will visit West Virginia Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. match.
SRU's home opener is next Saturday, Sept. 6, against Ohio Valley University (W. Va.). The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and will be the finale of a fall sports tripleheader at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The men's soccer match will follow a noon field hockey game vs. Indiana (Pa.) and a 2 p.m. women's soccer match vs. Edinboro.
