Rock drops 15-9 decision to Kutztown

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Caitlin O'Brien scored three goals Monday afternoon and Alison Rusnak and Jayme Timmons each added two to lead The Rock effort in a 15-9 loss to Kutztown on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Brianne Dishong and Katie Krouse each had a goal to round out The Rock's scoring attack.

Starting goalie Ashley Winkelspecht recorded 11 saves and allowed all 15 Kutztown goals in 50-plus minutes of action before Sara Williams played the final nine and a half minutes.

Rusnak scored the first goal of the game 90 seconds into the action to put SRU on top before Kutztown tied the score at 1-1.

O'Brien and Dishong then scored back-to-back goals to give SRU a 3-1 lead, but Kutztown answered with three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead with just less than 10 minutes gone in the first half.

Goals by Timmons and O'Brien pushed The Rock back in front by a 5-4 score with 15:45 left in the first half, which would prove to be the final lead of the game for the hosts.

Kutztown scored three straight goals, five of the next six tallies and eight of the final 11 first-half goals to take a 12-8 lead into intermission.

Krouse, Rusnak and O'Brien each scored a goal to break Golden Bear scoring runs.

Timmons then scored SRU's final goal of the day 30 seconds into the second half of action to trim the deficit to 12-9 before Kutztown scored three unanswered goals to conclude the scoring.

The Rock (0-8 overall) goes in search of that elusive first win Wednesday when it visits Pennsylvania State Athletic Conferenc rival Indiana U. of Pa. for a 4 p.m. game.

The next Rock home game is Sunday, April 6, against Millersville (11 a.m. start).
