Rock drops 3-1 decision to Vulcans

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Toby Bowser scored off an assist from senior Patrick Cormac in the 51st minute Wednesday afternoon to account for the lone Rock goal in a 3-1 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division leader California.

The loss dropped The Rock's overall record to 5-4-1 and its PSAC-West mark to 1-3). California is now 6-3-2 overall, 2-2-1 in division play.

The hosts outscored SRU by a 13-6 margin behind a 7-0 difference in the opening 45 minutes of action. Rock goalie Greg Blum was credited with five saves in the game.

California took a quick 1-0 lead with a goal in the sixth minute of action. That was the only goal scored in the opening period.

Bowser's goal tied the score at 1-1 before the hosts scored the game-wining tally in the 65th minute and added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.

The Rock opens a four-game homestand Saturday with a 1 p.m. PSAC "crossover" game vs. Shippensburg at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
