MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Hosting Millersville handed The Rock a 1-0 loss Saturday afternoon and, in the process, denied the Green and White a third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth.
The loss in the regular-season finale gives SRU a 9-8-2 overall record and an 8-6-2 PSAC mark. The Green and White lost their final three games.
In addition to depriving The Rock of a conference playoff berth, the loss also denied SRU a fourth successive double-digit win total.
A win Saturday would have earned The Rock the No. 3 seed in the conference playoffs, which start Tuesday.
Even with a loss Saturday, though, The Rock could still have earned the fourth and final playoff berth if both California and West Chester lost their final game.
California didn't hold up its end of the bargain; the Vulcans won a 3-2 decision Saturday over Shippensburg.
The Rock and California both finished the regular season with 26 points in the PSAC standings system that awards three points for a conference-game win and one point for a PSAC-game tie.
The Vulcans win the tiebreaker vs. SRU, though, on the strength of its 2-1 overtime win Sept. 26 over The Rock. The teams battled to a scoreless tie in their first meeting of the season.
California will earn the No. 4 playoff berth if West Chester loses Sunday at Bloomsburg; West Chester wins the No. 4 berth with a win Sunday.
