Lock Haven, Pa. - Rock standout Jason Cardillo was named Thursday as a recipient of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "Winter Top Ten Award."
The Top Ten Award recognizes PSAC student-athletes who achieve academic and athletic excellence. Award winners are determined by a vote of the conference's sports information directors.
Cardillo was joined on the 2006 Winter Top Ten Award recipients list by SRU women's swimmer Jen Zuzack.
SRU was the only PSAC school to have two student-athletes named to Winter Top Ten Award honors.
Cardillo, a senior wrestler from Oakdale (South Fayette H.S.), carries a 3.59 grade point average as an exercise science major at SRU.
The Rock's 165-pound competitor, Cardillo won the NCAA Division I East Regional championship and a berth in the national tournament and earned PSAC runner-up honors this winter en route to a final season record of 34-12.
The regional title and subsequent trip to the big-school national championship was the second earned by Cardillo. He also claimed the honors in 2004, a season in which he placed fourth in the conference championships.
Cardillo completed his collegiate career with a 102-58 record, which ranks as the ninth best win total in Rock wrestling history.
Prior to receiving the PSAC Winter Top Ten Award, Cardillo garnered four PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors and was a National Wrestling Coaches Association all-academic selection.
