GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team concluded its time at the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic with two matches Saturday on the campus of Davenport University.

The Rock opened the day with a four-set loss to host Davenport (25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22) followed by being swept by Saginaw Valley State University (25-18, 25-22, 25-9).

Slippery Rock exits the second weekend of the 2026 season with a 3-4 overall record. Davenport improves to 5-1 and Saginaw Valley State 6-2 following the wins.

All three sets with the Panthers were close, but after splitting the opening two sets Davenport finished off its home victory with back-to-back narrow wins in the third and fourth sets.

Slippery Rock was unable to earn a split on the day in the afternoon match with Saginaw Valley State as SVSU outlasted SRU in the opening two sets before pulling away in the third for the close-out victory.
