EDINBORO, Pa. – Carissa Flynn won the individual title to lead the Slippery Rock University women's cross country team to a second place finish in the team standings at the Doug Watts Open Saturday morning at Edinboro.

The Rock put all five scorers in the top 14 places to take second in the team race with 44 total points. Edinboro took the top spot with 26 points. Gannon was third with 98 points, followed by Clarion (109) and Allegheny (139) rounding out the top five.

Flynn picked up her first career collegiate cross country win after covering the 5,000-meter course in 18:40.90. She finished 21 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Edinboro.

Freshman
Caroline Wilson made an impressive collegiate debut to take fifth in 19:42 as the second SRU scorer.
Sydney Heltzell was 11th in 20:11, followed by
Marabelle Thornberry in 13th in 20:16 and freshman
Adi Jackson in 14th in 20:18 to round out the five scorers.

Rylie Teapole was 18th in 20:31 and
Brynleigh Moody was 21st in 20:54 to cap the top seven finishers for SRU.

A total of 74 runners from eight complete teams and two incomplete teams finished the 5K course.

Slippery Rock will return to action next Friday morning at the Robert Morris Colonial Invitational at the Younthtowne Fields in Clinton, Pennsylvania.
