SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team scored the lone goal of the second half to draw Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play, 2-2, Wednesday evening at James Egli Field.
With the result, Slippery Rock moves to 2-3-4 overall on the season with a 0-2-1 record inside the PSAC West, while Lock Haven's overall record slides to 2-3-5 and 1-1-1 in the division.
Kaden Reynolds scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season and
Christopher Merrill put home his first career goal, while Reynolds,
Boele Zwartele and
Gabin Lonjard each earned one assist for The Rock.
Reynolds (4) and Merrill (2) were the only Slippery Rock players to take multiple shots against the Bald Eagles.
Troy Nine started in goal for The Rock and surrendered the two Lock Haven shots on goal.
Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute via Reynolds. The forward received an over-the-top pass from Lonjard before taking one step and beating the Lock Haven goalkeeper Reese Kordes to his right.
The Bald Eagles tied the game, 1-1, just 32 seconds after The Rock took the lead after a goal from Josh Horn and assists by Evan Jennings and Billy Lawrence.
Only 11 minutes later, Lock Haven took a 2-1 lead from Nicholas McGhin's second goal of the season with an assist from Kade Black.
After trailing at halftime, 2-1, Merrill grabbed his first career goal off quick passes from Zwartele and Reynolds, leading to Merrill's shot at the back post that beat Kordes on the near side.
SRU took three shots after it tied the game, and came close to finding a game-winner, but were not able to find the back of the net.
The Rock ended the game with advantages in corner kicks (8-5) and shots on goal (6-2), while Lock Haven took four more shots than SRU (14-10).
Slippery Rock plays its final non-conference game of the season in a PSAC crossover game against Shepherd University 3 p.m. Saturday at James Egli Field.
