GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team dropped its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opener against Seton Hill University, 2-0, Wednesday at Dicks Sporting Goods Field.
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 2-2-3 overall with a 0-1-0 mark in the PSAC West, while Seton Hill's overall record improves to 3-3-2 and 1-0-0 in the division.
Kaden Reynolds led SRU with five shots, including two on goal.
Aashi Pandher (3) and
Gabin Lonjard (2) also took multiple shots for The Rock.
Boele Zwartele and
Jimmy Irani rounded out Slippery Rock's shot takers with one each.
Troy Nine made a career-high eight saves in the game, with three coming in the first half and five in the second frame.
Along with Nine,
Patrick Tierney,
Dylan Greggs and
Fynn Uebele each played 90 minutes in the field for SRU.
After a scoreless first half where each team took five shots and landed three on target, Paul Eder put the Griffins ahead with his second goal of the season in the 63
rd minute.
Following Seton Hill's goal, Slippery Rock created multiple chances on the offensive end, with the best chance off the left foot of Irani, forcing a diving save from Seton Hill goalkeeper Jannik Riess.
Seton Hill closed out the scoring in the 90
th minute as Rowan Aisenbrey clinched the 2-0 win for Seton Hill. Rafael Santos earned an assist on both Seton Hill goals.
The Griffins led the game in shots, 16-12, as well as a three-shot edge in shots on goal (10-7), while The Rock had an 8-7 advantage in saves.
Slippery Rock ends its four-game road trip with a PSAC West matchup against California (Pa.) 1 p.m. Saturday at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
