Rock drops decision at California (Pa.), 3-1

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team dropped a road game inside the PSAC West, 3-1, against California (Pa.) Saturday at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team dropped a road game inside the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division, 3-1, against California (Pa.) Saturday at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the result, Slippery Rock fell to 2-3-3 overall with a 0-2-0 mark inside the PSAC West, while California's overall record improved to 3-3-3 and 2-0-0 in the division.

Jimmy Irani scored his second goal of the season, as Kaden Reynolds picked up his second assist of the campaign on Irani's goal.

Aashi Pandher led The Rock with two shots, including one on goal, while Irani, Reynolds, Zsombor Retfalvi and Tom Roantree all took one shot for SRU.

Troy Nine made seven saves in goal, with four coming in the first half and three in the second frame.

Patrick Tierney and Fynn Uebele joined Nine as the Slippery Rock's players to play the full 90 minutes.

Cal opened the scoring in the 17th minutes as Ryan Moessner found the back of the net off passes from Jan Sebest and Jacob Gretz.

Slippery Rock was able to even the score, 1-1, just five minutes after the halftime break off the foot of Irani with Reynolds earning the assist.

The Vulcans pulled away in the final 30 minutes with goals from Moessner and Jamie Marcelo Espinosa as Gretz and Seth Basinger picked up assists.

California ended the game with advantages in shots (18-6), shots on goal (10-2) and corner kicks (5-3), while Slippery Rock came away with a 7-1 edge in saves.

Slippery Rock returns home for the first time since Sept. 9 in PSAC West action against Lock Haven 4 p.m. Sept. 30 at James Egli Field.
