Slippery Rock University Athletics

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team had its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end Saturday in a 1-0 loss to Seton Hill University at Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
 
Saturday's result moves SRU's record to 5-2-1 overall and a 4-1-1 inside the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Seton Hill improves to 3-3-2 overall and 3-1-2 in league competition following the win.
 
Despite Saturday's setback, Slippery Rock will still exit the weekend either in sole possession of first place or tied for the top spot in the PSAC West standings depending on the result of the Gannon-Lock Haven match that will be played Saturday evening.
 
The Rock controlled possession for much of the day and concluded the game holding advantages over Seton Hill in total shots (19-3), shots on goal (6-1) and corner kicks (7-1), but a 67th minute SHU goal was ultimately the difference.
 
Sophia Palermo compiled five of The Rock's 19 shots Saturday, with Bailey McGee (3), Peyton Los (3), Jilly Deivert (2) and Summer Hill (2) all registering multiple attempts as well.
 
Slippery Rock dominated possession for the majority of the opening half as most of the first 45 minutes was played in its attacking third with near contestant pressure on the Griffins' defense.
 
The Rock closed the first half with 14 total shots, including three attempts on goal by Palermo, Los and Hill. Conversely, SRU's stout backline yielded just a single off target shot to the Griffins and only one corner kick in the first half.
 
The second half began similarly to the first 45 minutes with SRU in firm control of possession, but in the 67th minute Kilee Coatney received a throw in from the near side and proceeded to set up Emilie Oslosky with a pass to the top of the box that allowed Oslosky to sneak a low sailing shot just inside the far the post and past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Leah Allman for the game's first goal.
 
Following Seton Hill's goal, Slippery Rock took four more shots with perhaps its two best attempts coming in the 86th minute on an attempt by Los from 12 yards out and then on a free kick by Bailey McGee from roughly eight yards outside of the box with just over a minute left in regulation. However, both shots were saved by SHU goalie Rhys Caplinger as the Griffins hung on for the one-goal victory.

Caplinger concluded the game with six saves. Oslosky's goal was her first of 2026.
 
The Rock returns home for back-to-back games 7 p.m. Sept. 23 against California (Pa.) on the turf of Mihalik-Thompson Stadium and 1 p.m. Sept. 26 versus Indiana University (Pa.) at Egli Field.
 
SRU has not lost to California since the 2022 season and has taken three straight games from IUP.
