SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team secured a 1-1 draw against Shippensburg University via
Patrick Tierney's 77
th minute goal Saturday afternoon at David See Field.
After the draw in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover play, Slippery Rock ends the day with a 2-1-3 record overall, while Shippensburg's overall record moves to 1-2-3 and its PSAC East record stays at 1-2-0.
Tierney scored his first goal of the season and the third of his career at The Rock off a corner kick from
Gabin Lonjard.
Kaden Reynolds led all players with six shots, including three shots on goal, while Lonjard (3) and
Aashi Pandher (4) also took multiple shots for The Rock.
Troy Nine played in goal for SRU and made five saves in the game.
Seven players for Slippery Rock had played the full 90 minutes against the Raiders that included Nine, Tierney, Lonjard,
Dylan Greggs,
Ryan Hanes,
Jimmy Irani and
Javier Garrido Burgos.
After a scoreless first half where Nine and Shippensburg goalkeeper Ryan Krumenacker made two saves each, Shippensburg opened the scoring in the 73
rd minute after a long-range pass from Zachary Haynie found Braedon Johnson, who flipped the ball over Nine from the top of the box, giving Shippensburg a 1-0 lead.
Just four minutes later, The Rock found themselves a good opportunity on a corner kick. Lonajrd took the corner and found the head of Tierney in the box to beat Krumenacker, tying the game, 1-1.
Neither side was able to find a game-winner in the final 13 minutes as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Slippery Rock finished the contest with a 19-9 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. The Rock took 11 corner kicks compared to Shippensburg's 11 and each team committed 13 fouls.
Slippery Rock begins PSAC West action on the road against Seton Hill University 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Dicks Sporting Goods Field.
