Rock splits pair on day two of SRU Invite

The Slippery Rock volleyball team closed out the 2026 SRU Invite by splitting a pair of matches Saturday at Morrow Field House. The Rock first swept Roberts Wesleyan before losing in three sets to Bloomsburg.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. The Slippery Rock University volleyball team closed out the 2026 SRU Invitational by splitting a pair of matches Saturday at Morrow Field House.
 
The Rock opened the day by sweeping Roberts Wesleyan University (25-21, 25-14, 25-22) followed by a three-set loss to Bloomsburg University (25-21, 25-23, 25-21).
 
SRU exits the weekend having evenly split its first 10 matches of the season. Roberts Wesleyan dropped to 1-7 in its loss to The Rock, while Bloomsburg improved to 6-2 with its victory.
 
At the conclusion of the weekend, Slippery Rock senior middle blocker Victoria Nalbach was named to the SRU Invitational All-Tournament Team. In three matches, Nalbach compiled 21 kills on an impressive .541 attack percentage and one ace offensively alongside four blocks (three solo / one assisted) on defense.
 
In two matches Saturday, Nalbach had 15 kills (.538), six digs and two blocks. Ava Haynes led The Rock attack against Roberts Wesleyan and Bloomsburg with a combined 18 kills (.227). Marley Annis (15) and Emry Rumbaugh (12) tallied double-digit kill totals during the day as well.
 
Other Rock standouts on day two of the SRU Invitational included Ellie Friedrichs (5 aces), Leah Schreckengost (two aces), Chloe Shirk (three blocks), Paityn Krause (36 assists) and Emily Loeffler (31 assists).
 
The Rock's victory over Roberts Wesleyan, which saw SRU produce a .237 team attack percentage was highlighted by Annis' 12-kill, eight-dig, one-ace performance as well as four aces from Friedrichs: the freshman's third match this year with four or more aces.
 
SRU ended the Roberts Wesleyan contest holding advantages over the Redhawks in kills (41-30), attack percentage (.237-.143), aces (5-3) and digs (42-31).
 
The loss against Bloomsburg, which was a close match through its duration, saw Haynes go for 11 kills with Nalbach and Rumbaugh in support with six each as well.
 
Slippery Rock returns to action when it opens the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division portion of its schedule 6 p.m. Sept. 16 against Clarion at Morrow Field House.
