SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team secured a Senior Day victory over Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action, 2-1, Saturday at James Egli Field.
Slippery Rock improved to 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 inside the PSAC West with the win, while Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 1-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the division with the loss.
With the result, SRU is now 11-0-2 in its last 13 games at James Egli Field with a +27 goal differential (34-7).
Jordyn Constable scored her first career goal, and
Abby Paterline grabbed the game-winner for Slippery Rock, while
Bailey McGee and
Chloe Flynn both picked up one assist each.
Constable paced both sides with four shots and three shots on goal. McGee, Paterline, Flynn,
Sophia Palermo,
Peyton Los, and
Jilly Deivert all took two shots, while
Lindsey Price,
Lilia Battalini and
Eden Williams rounded out SRU's shot takers with one apiece.
Leah Allman started in goal for The Rock and made one save in 87 minutes of play, while
Allie Burkholder played the final three minutes of the win.
Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the 23
rd minute on Constable's first career goal. McGee was pushing down the right wing and sent a cross into the box, where it was met by Constable's right foot and past the diving goalkeeper to give Slippery Rock a 1-0 advantage.
After halftime, The Rock extended its advantage less than two minutes into the second half when Paterline received a pass from Flynn around midfield before burying a breakaway, making it 2-0 SRU.
The Mountain Cats cut The Rock's lead to one after Sarah Henry scored off a rebound from Rylee Fry's shot in the 61
st minute.
Both sides traded chances for the final half an hour, as Slippery Rock held on for the 2-1 victory.
Slippery Rock outshot Pitt-Johnstown 19-5, including 11-2 in shots on goal. The Rock also took seven corner kicks compared to Pitt-Johnstown's three.
