FAIRMONT, W.Va – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team waited through over a 90-minute weather delay, and fell 3-1 against Fairmont State University in it's season opener Thursday night at Duvall-Rosier Field.
With the loss, Slippery Rock falls to 0-1-0 on the season, while Fairmont State kicks off 2026 with a 1-0-0 record.
The Falcons outshot The Rock 10-6, while landing four shots on goal compared to Slippery Rock's one.
Lilia Battalini grabbed the goal for SRU. while

Jilly Deivert all took one shot.
Leah Allman made her 56
th career start and made one save. Allman is now tied with Allyn Blind for the third most goalie starts in SRU history.

Sam Papcunik all made their collegiate debuts with Slippery Rock in the match, with Gianfrancesco, Interthal and Sedor made starts.
Battalini opened the scoring in the second minute of the game with a shot from the top of the box. Fairmont State's Serenity Thomas tied the game, 1-1, off an assist from Sam Yuen less than five minutes after Battalini's opener.
At the 22
nd minute mark of the first half, a weather delay took over the game, causing over 90 minutes to pass before the teams took the field again.
The game remained scoreless until the 64
th minute, when Payton Parliament gave Fairmont State a 2-1 advantage. The Falcons closed the scoring and gave themselves a 3-1 edge when Stephanie Pedias scored on a pass from Lyndy Van Horn.
Olivia Johnston made one save on goal for the Falcons.
Slippery Rock returns to action as it opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play 2 p.m. Sunday against Lock Haven University at James Egli Field.
