SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's flag football head coach Lisa Horton has announced the active recruiting period for The Rock flag football program has opened as she works to build a roster for the launch of the sport at SRU in 2027-28.

"I'm very excited to hit the ground recruiting this year and to work on building the inaugural roster for the launch of flag football at The Rock," said Horton. "The sport is growing at a rapid rate and we look forward to welcoming the first class of women's flag football student-athletes to SRU next year."

Horton will also be actively recruiting high school and transfer students throughout the region and nation during the upcoming 2026-27 academic year and will visit multiple showcases this summer, including the 2026 NFL Flag Championship Showcase in Indiana July 23-26 and the "We Run the World" Nationals in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania August. 7-9.

ABOUT SLIPPERY ROCK FLAG FOOTBALL
Slippery Rock announced in November of 2025 that the University would be adding women's flag football in 2027-28. One of the fastest growing sports in the country is on the fast track to become the next NCAA championship sport. Each NCAA Division will vote in January of 2027 on a proposal that would see the NCAA host the inaugural national championship event in the spring of 2028. Lisa Horton was hired as head coach of the program and began her tenure July 1, 2026 with a full year to recruit and build the foundation for the program before competition begins in 2027-28.Â
