INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team is one of nine teams from the Atlantic Region to be included in the first set of NCAA Regional Rankings that were announced Wednesday by the Division II Women's Tennis Committee.

The NCAA regional rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Tournament. The Atlantic Region consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and select independent institutions within the region's borders.

The first set regional rankings are listed in alphabetical order with no numerical ranking. The committee will rank the teams in numerical order for the first time with the second set of regional rankings, which will be announced April. 22.

All three conference tournament champions within the region receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with the next four highest ranked teams in the final regional rankings receiving at-large bids. Updated regional rankings will be released every Wednesday until the conclusion of the season. The official release of the 48-team field for the 2026 NCAA Tournament will be announced 8:30 p.m. May 4 on NCAA.com.

Slippery Rock was one of two schools from the PSAC West to appear in the Atlantic Region rankings this week along with Indiana University (Pa.). East Stroudsburg University was the PSAC East representatives.

The University of Charleston, Fairmont State University, Frostburg State University and West Virginia Wesleyan College appeared from the MEC. The CIAA representative was Shaw University, while independent Salem University also earning a spot in the first set of rankings.

Only results through April 12 were considered for the first set of regional rankings, Slippery Rock holds a 9-1 record in Division II contests and is 7-0 in Atlantic Region matches. SRU is 2-0 against teams that were also ranked in the Atlantic Region courtesy of wins over Fairmont State and Frostburg State.

SRU will also play the ranked trio of IUP, Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan this week.

Slippery Rock's strong tournament resume includes ranking first in the Atlantic Region in in-region winning percentage (1.000) as well being second in both overall Division II winning percentage (.900) and results against Division II opponents with an above .500 winning percentage.

No stranger to the postseason, Slippery Rock has qualified for the NCAA Tournament 22 times dating back to the 1995-96 season. More recently, SRU won its regional and made a run to the Round of 16 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament for what was the program's seventh consecutive national tournament berth.
