NORTH CANTON, OHIO - The Slippery Rock University baseball team went on the road and earned a 10-8 non-conference victory Tuesday over Walsh University at Biery Stadium.
Â
The win improved The Rock's record to 19-14. The host Cavaliers dropped to 18-16 following the loss. Tuesday's victory, combined with a 5-0 shutout for SRU over Walsh at Critchfield Park earlier in the season, gives Slippery Rock the season sweep of WU.
Â
Dating back to the end of the 2024 season, Slippery Rock has now won 11 consecutive midweek games.
Â
Following a weather delay that pushed the start of the game back to 5 p.m. from its original 3 p.m. start time, Slippery Rock and Walsh proceeded to combine for 22 hits including four home runs. The Rock and Cavaliers scored runs in five of the eight innings played Tuesday (the game was called early due to darkness).
Â
SRU's 14 hits in the win marked the 10th double-digit hit tally for The Rock in their last 13 games.
Â
Leading the way for Slippery Rock were
Michael Kitko and
Landon Hamer. Kitko went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, one home run and four RBIs. Hamer was 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs in what was just the fourth start of his college career.
Â
Tuesday's performance gives Kitko Slippery Rock season-highs in both home runs (5) and total RBIs (36), already career-bests for him in both categories despite there being a minimum of 14 games remaining the season.
Â
Darryn Callahan and
Jake Robinson both went 2-for-5 with one run scored as well with Callahan driving in a pair of runs to up his RBI total to 24 on the season. Robinson has now registered multi-hit games in six of his last nine games played.
Â
The quartet of
Stone Powell,
Clay Wiesen,
Max Bernadowski and
Mason Raup all registered hits as well with Powell's resulting in his 26th RBI of 2026 and Wiesen stretching his hitting streak to 11 games.
Â
On the mound, Slippery Rock used four pitchers.
Michael Cahill made his first collegiate start, going three innings with four runs allowed on four hits and two walks.
Tyler Slone came on for Cahill in the fourth inning and proceeded to limit Walsh to one run in his two innings of work as part of his first win in a Rock uniform.
Â
Carter Wilson and
Nolan Comerford combined to pitch the final three innings. Wilson allowed three runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one batter in one inning. Comerford picked up his second save of 2026 after throwing shutout seventh eighth innings.
Slippery Rock manufactured the game's first run in the second inning when Bernadowski drove a leadoff double to left field before being moved over to third base courtesy of a Callahan groundout. Hamer then shot a line drive through the left side of the infield, easily scoring Bernadowski for what was Hamer's first collegiate RBI.
Â
Walsh answered The Rock's early run with two of its own in the bottom of the frame to take 2-1 lead that also lasted just a half inning before Callahan drove in Wiesen and Kitko with a two-out single that pushed SRU back ahead of the Cavaliers, 3-2.
Â
The scoring onslaught continued into the third inning as Walsh tacked on a pair of runs followed by SRU tallying a score of its own to make it a 4-4 game when Kitko produced an RBI-single that plated Robinson from second base.
Â
Hamer continued the best offensive performance of his young career in the fifth inning when the Warriors Mark, Pennsylvania native launched his first career home run, a two-run shot. Hamer's homer was a part of a six-run inning that also included a Powell RBI-single and a three-run home run from Kitko that put Slippery Rock up 10-4. Â
Â
While Walsh did cut The Rock's lead to just two runs at 10-8 through six innings the Cavaliers' comeback bid ended there thanks to Comerford who pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings to close out the two-run victory.
Â
Slippery Rock next embarks on a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division series against Lock Haven. The Rock hosts the Bald Eagles for two games Friday before traveling to Lock Haven for a Saturday doubleheader. First pitch of game one on both day sis set for 1 p.m.
