SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University baseball team combined 27 total runs with a pair of great pitching performances to earn a doubleheader sweep over Lock Haven Friday at Critchfield Park.

Slippery Rock opened the day by registering a 16-1 victory in game one before completing the sweep via an 11-2 win game two. The sweep improves The Rock's record to 21-14 overall and 8-10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Lock Haven leaves SRU at 5-31 overall and 1-16 in league games.

Collectively, Slippery Rock registered its 27 runs on 27 hits including eight doubles, one triple and three home runs.

Of the 12 SRU athletes to record an official at-bat over the course of Saturday's doubleheader, 10 ended the day with at least one hit.

Stone Powell led the way going a combined 4-for-7 at the plate in the two games with six runs scored, two home runs, six RBIs and one walk. Michael Kitko also had a great day, going 4-for-6 with one home run, four RBIs and a pair of walks.

Powell and Kitko now share the team lead for home runs on the year with six each, while Kitko is up to a Rock-best 40 RBIs.

Gage Gillott went 5-for-8 over the doubleheader with five runs scored, three RBIs and one stolen base. Two of Gillott's team-high five hits were doubles.

Also having a productive day at the plate was catcher Treston Nemeth, who went 4-for-9 with two runs scored, a triple and four RBIs. Max Bernadowski and Clay Wiesen collected three hits apiece with Wiesen also stealing two bases as well as posting two doubles and Bernadwoski scoring three runs.

With hits in both games, Wiesen extended his hitting streak to a Rock season-best 13 games. He's now reached base in 15 straight games as well.

Rounding out the top bats in the wins was Morgen Billotte, who scored three runs, walked twice, stole one base, had one hit and drove in one run.

Slippery Rock was also the beneficiary of strong pitching performances in addition to its huge day at the plate. Starting pitchers Gillott (2-2) and Cole Grady (3-0) combined to pitch 10 innings with just two runs allowed on six hits and 11 strikeouts.

The Rock's game one starter, Gillott tossed five shutout innings, surrounding just three hits and a walk. Grady took the mound to open game two and promptly matched a career-best in strikeouts with 10 while scatting two runs (one earned) and three hits over five innings.

Grady has allowed just four earned runs to go with 40 strikeouts against PSAC West opponents this season.

Out of the bullpen, Joey Vanzin tossed two shutout innings to close out the sweep in game two with Kyle Warnsman giving up just one run in two innings of relief in game two.

SRU used big third innings in both legs of the doubleheader to put each game out of reach. The opener featured a seven-run third frame, while the nightcap saw six runs scored in its third inning. All told, Slippery Rock scored multiple runs in seven of 12 innings Friday.

Slippery Rock looks to complete its series sweep of the Bald Eagles with another successful doubleheader Saturday. The Rock and Bald Eagles will play a twin bill in Lock Haven beginning at 1 p.m.
