No. 39 Rock rolls to 7-0 win vs. Lock Haven

The No. 39 Slippery Rock women’s tennis team racked up its fourth consecutive victory, and third straight shutout, with a 7-0 win against Lock Haven Friday night at the Oxford Athletic Club.

WEXFORD, Pa. – The No. 39 Slippery Rock University women's tennis team earned a 7-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory over Lock Haven Friday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania.

In addition to being The Rock's fourth consecutive victory, Friday's win also served as SRU's third straight 7-0 PSAC West win. Nationally ranked Slippery Rock is now 8-1 on the year overall and a perfect 3-0 in league matches. Lock Haven exits the match at 2-8 overall and 0-3 inside the PSAC West.

The doubles portion of the match saw clean 6-0 shutouts from all three flights.

Nicole Kempton and Alissia Kivi – the 29th ranked doubles team in Division II – bested Maci Rohrbach and Megan Ferris from the top flight while Tina Slovak and Amaia Balaguer Brau defeated Alaina Marchioni and Breanna Chicas with Nadia Rodewald and Dari Sakhanova downing Alyse Bass and Hope Lapinski.

SRU has been stellar in all three doubles flights this year. The Rock's No. 1 (Kempton and Kivi) and No. 2 (Balaguer Brau / Slovak) pairings both hold 7-2 dual match records and respective overall marks of 16-8 and 12-3. Not to be out done, Rodewald and Sakhanova are a perfect 8-0 in dual matches and 16-1 overall.

Singles competition also featured a host of shutouts as The Rock earned 6-0, 6-0 victories out of the second, third, fourth and sixth flights. Kivi bettered Rohrbach, Kempton defeated Marchioni, Slovak earned her win over Chicas while Anna Poranski was responsible for the sixth flight victory versus Lapinski.

Balaguer Brau nearly added a shutout of her own after a 6-0, 6-1 first flight win against Ferris. Rodewald was leading Bass 4-0 in the fourth flight before Bess' retirement gave Rodewald an abbreviated victory.

The Rock's team winning streak has in turn bolstered every rostered athlete's individual overall record as well. Kivi is now 16-3 in singles bouts followed by Balaguer Brau (14-5), Kempton (13-4), Rodewald (11-6) and Poranski (5-5). While she did not compete in Friday's singles matches, Sakhanova is also 12-4.

Slippery Rock will play the second of its three straight weekend matches 2 p.m. Saturday at Division I St. Bonaventure University.
