No. 39 Rock opens PSAC West play with shutout at Clarion

The No. 39 Slippery Rock women’s tennis team earned a 7-0 shutout victory at Clarion Monday to open the PSAC West portion of its schedule with a win and improve to 6-1 overall.

CLARION, Pa. - The No. 39 Slippery Rock University women's tennis team earned a 7-0 shutout victory against Clarion Monday at the Campbell Courts in Clarion, Pennsylvania.
 
Monday's match, which served as The Rock's 2025-26 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opener, improved SRU's record to 6-1 on the year overall. Clarion dropped to 1-9 following the loss.
 
Not only did Slippery Rock secure victories out of every flight, it did not concede a point as SRU swept the doubles portion of the match with consecutive 6-0 victories followed by 6-0, 6-0 wins through all six singles flights.
 
Slippery Rock's top doubles duo – the 26th-ranked team of Alissia Kivi and Nicole Kempton – defeated Polia Vladeva and Emily McMahan from the first flight while Amaia Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak bested Taelyn Thomas and Abby Rodgers in the second slot with Dari Sakhanova and Nadia Rodewald adding a third flight win against Chloe Albrecht and Alana Jackson.
 
Rodewald and Sakhanova have now won seven straight matches to improve their record to 15-1. Kempton and Kivi are also sporting a four-match winning streak that's driven their record on the year to 14-8. Monday's win was also the 10th in 13 chances for Slovak and Balaguer Brau.
 
The singles results featured the top portion of Slippery Rock's lineup all in their normal flights as Balaguer Brau defeated Vladeva, Kivi bettered McMahan and Kempton downed Thomas.
 
Sakhanova captured a fourth flight win against Rodgers. Rodewald defeated Albrecht in the fifth flight. Playing in her first dual match for Slippery Rock, Anna Poranski earned a sixth flight victory against Jackson.
 
Kivi (14-3), Kempton (12-4), Balaguer Brau (12-5) and Sakhanova (11-4) all added to their double-digit win totals while Rodewald extended her team-best winning streak to four matches, improving her overall record to 9-6 in the process.
 
Sakhanova's two victories Monday pushed her career win total to 128, just one away from tying Lacey Cohen for seventh place on The Rock's career victory ledger.
 
Slippery Rock continues road PSAC West competition 4 p.m. Thursday at Seton Hill University.
