SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team entered the national rankings at No. 39, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Wednesday with the release of its weekly Division II poll.
Â
The Rock earned their spot in the national rankings by opening the year with a 4-1 record. SRU has registered wins against Frostburg State (7-0), West Chester (7-0), Texas A&M Kingsville (4-3) and Saint Leo (5-2) while its lone loss came against No. 31 Angelo State. Â
Â
Wednesday's poll marks the first time this season that Slippery Rock has been ranked among Division II's best teams. Hardly strangers to the national rankings, SRU finished last season as the No. 49 team in the country.
Â
Slippery Rock is the second highest ranked team inside the Atlantic Region, behind only No. 20 Charleston. The Rock and Golden Eagles are scheduled to play a regular season match April 18 in Charleston, West Virginia. Rounding out the Atlantic Region's representation in the national polls was No. 46 Indiana (Pa.).
Â
The Rock's top pairing of
Nicole Kempton and
Alissia Kivi remained in the national doubles rankings for a fifth consecutive poll as well, climbing to No. 26 in the latest rankings which is up 11 spots from last week's No. 37 position.
Â
In The Rock's last match against Angelo State, Kempton and Kivi upended the 32nd-ranked team of Benedetta Raggiotti and Margaux Rene.
Â
Slippery Rock continues non-conference competition 1 p.m. Sunday against Fairmont State at the SRU Tennis Courts in what will be The Rock's 2026 home opener.
