KEMPTON AND BALAGUER BRAU APPROACHING HISTORY
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Slippery Rock will add at least two more athletes to its 100-win club this year.
Â
Nicole Kempton and
Amaia Balaguer Brau are both on track to reach 100 career victories at The Rock early in the season. Entering Friday's match, Balaguer Brau has 95 wins at SRU and Kempton is at 94.
Â
When they reach the impressive milestone, the duo will become the 17th and 18th members of the program's 100-win club (Singles+Doubles). As such, Kempton and Balaguer Brau would join
Tina Slovak and
Dari Sakhanova as active members of The Rock's 100-win club.
Â
A possibility also exists that
Alissia Kivi could make it five members of this year's roster with 100 wins at SRU. Kivi has tallied 68 career wins already with the overwhelming majority of her sophomore year still to be played.
Â
SCOUTING THE ROCK
• A year after earning the doubles point in 17 of its 25 matches, Slippery Rock continued what's been a decade long trend of having strong doubles results by taking two of three flights in its season-opener against Frostburg State a month ago.
Â
• SRU's second and third flight pairings of
Amaia Balaguer Brau /
Tina Slovak and
Nadia Rodewald /
Dari Sakhanova have combined to post a 15-2 record through the fall and its first dual match of the year.
Â
• Balaguer Brau and Slovak, who are 19-4 as partners in dual match competition over their careers and 6-1 this season overall, occupied The Rock's second flight against FSU.
Â
• In their first year as a team, Rodewald and Sakhanova have won nine of their first 10 matches together.
Â
• The top of The Rock's doubles rotation is headlined by
Nicole Kempton and
Alissia Kivi: the 26th-ranked team in Division II. Kempton and Kivi are 7-4 versus fellow Division II competition this year.
Â
• Slippery Rock swept all six singles matches against Frostburg State with the top half of its lineup all posting dominant wins as Balaguer Brau (6-1, 6-1), Kivi (6-0, 6-0) and Kempton (6-1, 6-0) set the tone for a team victory.
Â
• Kivi is 10-1 in singles matches this season with both Kempton (8-2) and Balaguer Brau (8-3) close behind.
Â
• Slippery Rock's fourth and fifth flights against Frostburg State were occupied by senior veterans Slovak (6-2, 4-6, 11-9) and Sakhanova (6-3, 6-2). Sakhanova holds a 6-3 individual record in 2025-26, while the FSU win pushed Slovak above the .500 mark at 2-1.
Â
• Playing in her first dual match for The Rock, Rodewald, a Grand Valley State transfer, captured a smooth 6-0, 6-3 win in the sixth flight versus Frostburg State. A victory against Tiffin would push her season record to an even 5-5.
