Prince named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week

Slippery Rock men’s basketball standout Kerwin Prince was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after leading SRU to an 85-67 win over Pitt-Johnstown last week with a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double performance that also included five steals.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout Kerwin Prince was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Prince is the fourth different Rock athlete to earn weekly recognition from the conference this season: Elijah Hill (Dec. 1) and RJ Sledge (Jan. 12) both earned PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week accolades as well while Dame Givner was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week on Dec. 22.

Prince earned his first weekly honor after leading The Rock to an 85-67 victory over Pitt-Johnstown. SRU's senior forward dominated inside with a 24-point, 12-rebound, five-steal performance.

The double-double was Prince's fourth such performance of the year while his point and steal totals were both season-highs.

A starter in seven of his 17 games played this year, Prince has recorded per game averages of 10.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals while shooting an efficient 62.3 percent from the field overall.

Prince is in his first year with The Rock after spending the 2024-25 season at the University of New Orleans.

Joining Prince in earning weekly honors from the league office out of the PSAC West was Athlete of the Week Dallis Dillard of IUP. The Eastern Division honorees were Shepherd's Marcus Banks (PSAC East Athlete of the Week) and Carnell Henderson of Millersville (PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week).

Slippery Rock closes out its three-game homestand when it hosts Clarion 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in another pivotal conference contest for its annual White Out Game at Morrow Field House. The Rock will be going for another series sweep of a PSAC West foe after earning a 78-71 road win at Clarion earlier in the season.

The Slippery Rock Athletic Department will also host a Hoops for Hunger event Wednesday in conjunction with The Rock basketball doubleheader against Clarion. Fans can support Rock Pantry+ on the SRU campus by bringing donated food and other essential items to the games. Read more about Hoops for Hunger HERE.
