Kivi earns first PSAC West Athlete of the Week award in 2026

Slippery Rock women’s tennis standout Alissia Kivi was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This week’s award encompassed an athlete’s performance from the fall season up to matches through Feb. 23.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Slippery Rock University women's tennis standout Alissia Kivi was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

This week's award encompassed an athlete's performance from the fall season up to matches through Feb. 23. This season's inaugural PSAC West Athlete of the Week award is the first such of Kivi's brief, but great, collegiate career.

Kivi earned the honor after what's been a solid start to her sophomore campaign. In singles competition, Kivi has compiled a near flawless 10-1 overall record while partnering with Nicole Kempton to form SRU's top doubles team that has a 9-7 overall record.

Nationally, Kivi and Kempton sit 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles rankings, with Kivi being the 46th-ranked singles athlete in Division II as well.

The fall season saw Kivi and Kempton make the finals of the ITA Atlantic Region Doubles Championship Tournament, which allowed the duo to earn an at-large bid to the exclusive ITA Cup. Kivi also played her way to the quarterfinals of the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship where she suffered her lone loss so far this year to eventual champion Filippa Larsson.

Kivi then opened the spring portion of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win from the second singles flight in The Rock's shutout of Frostburg State University.

With the majority of her sophomore season still to be played, Kivi has registered a 33-9 singles record at SRU and a 35-15 record in doubles matches. A year ago, Kivi was recognized as the PSAC West Freshman of the Year and the ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. She was also voted to the All-PSAC West first team in both singles and doubles.

Slippery Rock is currently scheduled to resume its season 11:30 a.m. March 13 against West Chester University at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
