SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division tilt, 100-60, to No. 8 Indiana University (Pa.) Wednesday at Morrow Field House.
With the loss, Slippery Rock fell to 5-10 overall and 3-6 within PSAC competition. Indiana improved to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the PSAC with its victory.
Iyanna Wade led Slippery Rock in scoring for the fifth time this season with her 16 points. Wade also facilitated a team-high five assists and grabbed two rebounds.
Mairan Haggerty led all bench scorers with 14 points, one point away from her career-high for the second consecutive game. Haggerty also brought down three rebounds.
Kayley Joseph-Bernard rounded out Slippery Rock's double-digit scorers with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a 3-for-5 effort from the 3-point line.
Alyssa Gillin and
Sophia Hook both scored five points. Hook grabbed four rebounds, while Gillin collected four rebounds, dished out two assists, blocked two shots and picked up one steal. Gillin's two rejections upped her career total to 48, just two blocks behind Mallory Heinle (2014-18) for 13
th place on SRU's all-time blocks list.
Hannah Pugliese and
Jorja Bernesser scored four and two points, respectively. Bernesser played a career-high 15 minutes and Pugliese played a season-high 14 minutes each off the bench.
Claudia Ierullo scored her first career points on a 3-pointer in the second half. The freshman also earned career-highs with two rebounds and two assists.
Karianna Woods picked up two steals, moving her season total to 31, just one steal behind Alexis Brown for the 10
th most steals in a transfer's first season at SRU.
IUP scored the game's first 12 points and SRU wasn't able to recover as the Crimson Hawks took a 53-31 advantage in halftime. Indiana outscored SRU 47-29 in the second half to pick up a victory, 100-60.
Slippery Rock ended the game shooting 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field overall, 32 percent (8-for-25) from the 3-point line and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the charity stripe. The Rock's 83.3 percent clip from the free throw line was their highest of the season while taking at least 10 attempts. SRU outscored IUP, 19-16, off of turnovers.
Indiana shot to 63.5 percent (40-of-63) shooting from the floor overall, 50 percent (8-for-16) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the foul line.
IUP was paced by Nyshae' Weaver's 23 points, four rebounds and one assist. Teresa Maggio (17), Ellie Wilkerson (15) and Madison Zavasky (10) scored in double-digits for the Crimson Hawks. Maggio also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and dished out a game-high six assists.
