Rock slides 10 spots to No. 14 in national poll

The Rock football team slid 10 spots to No. 14 in the AFCA Division II national poll when the updated rankings were released Monday.

WACO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University football team slid 10 places to No. 14 in the NCAA Division II national rankings after the American Football Coaches Association released its updated national poll Monday.

The drop in the poll marks the first time since week 11 of the 2024 season that SRU has been ranked outside the top five. The Rock have been ranked in every national poll since the final rankings of the 2018 season were released and have earned a single-digit ranking in each of the last six seasons and nine of the last 10 years.

Defending national champion Ferris State remained atop the poll, while Harding remained second and West Florida remained third. Kutztown moved up one spot to No. 4 and Angelo State moved up one place to round out the top five.

California (Pa.) moved up two places to No. 6 to give the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference three teams ranked in the top 15 this week. The rest of the top 10 includes No. 7 Western Colorado, No. 8 Augustana, No. 9 Texas-Permian Basin and No. 10 Grand Valley State.

Kutztown, California (Pa.) and Slippery Rock are the only three PSAC teams to be ranked in the top 25 this week. Two more teams from the Western Division are included in the "others receiving votes" section of the poll, with Indiana (Pa.) and Clarion both picking up points.

No. 18 Virginia Union of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and No. 23 Frostburg State of the Mountain East Conference round out the five Super Region One teams in this week's rankings.

Johnson C. Smith (CIAA) and Charleston (MEC) join Indiana (Pa.) and Clarion in the "others receiving votes" section of the poll. No teams from the Northeast-10 Conference are included in this week's poll.

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from just its second regular season loss since 2022 and its fourth PSAC West divisional loss since 2017 when it travels to Gannon University Saturday for a noon kickoff in Erie, Pennsylvania.

A look at the updated AFCA national poll can be found below. Slippery Rock also dropped seven spots to No. 16 in this week's D2football.com media poll, available HERE.
