SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team dropped its final Pennsylania State Athletic Confeence crossover game at Shepherd University, 3-0.
All three of the Rams goals came in the second half.
Slippery Rock's record drops to 2-3-1 after two straight victories to open the year. Shepherd record improves to 3-4-0 with its second straight victory.
Cornelis Dedecker,
Kaden Reynolds and
Gabin Lonjard led The Rock with two shots each. Dedecker paced SRU with two shots on goal. Lonjard and
Ethan Boland registered one shot on goal each for Slippery Rock.
Alvey Kaufman made two saves, while allowing three goals for SRU. Kaufman's record on the year is now 1-2-1.
The first half was quiet in terms of offense for both sides. Slippery Rock took a 5-1 advantage in shots and 2-0 edge in shots on goal into halftime.
The Rams opened the scoring nine minutes into the second half with a 54
th minute strike from Josh Petty, assisted by Harris Sterling, making it 1-0 Rams.
Shepherd grabbed two insurance goals to seal its victory. Mac Long found the back of the net in the 67
th minute, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. Petty reached the back of the net for a second time in the game in the 74
th minute, and the fifth time on the season to put Shepherd up 3-0.
SRU finished the game with a 9-7 edge in shots, but Shepherd had a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Slippery Rock returns to James Egli Field to open PSAC West action against Lock Haven University 4 p.m. Wednesday.
