SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – With the help of a 51st minute game-winner from Jimmy Irani, the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action with a 1-0 win over Lock Haven University at James Egli Field.

Slippery Rock improved its record to 3-3-1 overall and a 1-0-0 mark in the PSAC West. Lock Haven fell to 4-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the PSAC West.

Irani scored the lone goal in the game for either team. Irani's tally was the second of his season. The mark was also his second game-winning goal of the season, with his first coming in SRU's season-opener versus D'Youville University.

Zsombor Retfalvi and Kaden Reynolds both picked up and assist on Irani's goal. Retfalvi's assist was his second of the season, while Reynolds' assist was his first of 2025.

Alvey Kaufman played in goal for The Rock and picked up the victory while making two saves. Kaufman is now 2-2-1 on the season.

During a quiet first half, The Rock controlled play with 58 percent of the possession and put all six of its shots on goal. Irani and Aashi Pandher both registered two shots in the first half. Retfalvi and Colton Swanson were the other two Rock players to register a shot in the first 45 minutes.

The Rock continued their heavy dose of possession to start the second half. Pandher started a run down the left wing and fed the ball into Retfalvi, who completed a give-and-go with Reynolds and the ball found its way over to Irani on the right side of the 18-yard box. Irani made one move by a defender and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Slippery Rock a 1-0 lead.

Kaufman would face two shots in the second half that made their way onto the target and came up with the save both times, as Slippery Rock's defense closed out the victory.

With the win, Slippery Rock head coach Kevin Wilhelm tied Michael Bonelli and current SRU women's soccer head coach Noreen Herlihy for fourth on The Rock's all-time wins list.
