SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  In recognition of Fight Hunger Month, the Slippery Rock University Athletics Department will partner with
Rock Pantry+ on the SRU campus for a charitable drive to collect food and hygiene products at Saturday's football game against California (Pa.).
Â
Fans are encouraged to bring donations such as canned goods, granola bars, pasta, rice, peanut butter, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant and other daily essentials. Monetary contributions will also be accepted. A full list of recommended donation items is available at the link above.
Â
Rock Pantry+ is Slippery Rock University's food pantry, providing supplementary food and resources to students experiencing food insecurity on campus. The mission of
Rock Pantry+ is to reduce hunger for SRU students and to provide access to a high-quality variety of food options, tools for meal preparation and toiletries at no cost.
Â
All active SRU students are eligible to utilize
Rock Pantry+.
Â
Collection tables will be located at all stadium entrances Saturday night, staffed by
Rock Pantry+ volunteers and student-athletes. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., with donations accepted through 6:30 p.m. Kickoff against the Vulcans is set for 6:02 p.m.
Â
"Game day is always about coming together as a community," said Dr.
Roberta Page, SRU director of athletics. "By supporting
Rock Pantry+, fans can help ensure that every student at The Rock has the resources they need to succeed."
Â
Fans are asked to look for collection stations outside each entry gate. Every contribution—big or small—helps strengthen The Rock community and tackle hunger on campus.
