Rock cruises past California, 5-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team overwhelmed California (Pa.) with four second half goals to complete a 5-0 win on the road.

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team overwhelmed California (Pa.) with four second half goals to complete a 5-0 win on the road.
 
The Rock improved to 2-2-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division, currently sitting atop the division with the Indiana University (Pa.) and Gannon University. California falls to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the PSAC West.
 
Marissa Salisbury put home two goals, raising her total to three on the year. Sophia Palermo finished with a multi-point game as well with one goal and one assist.
 
Lindsey Price and Allie Burns rounded out the scoring for The Rock, while Abby Paterline and Eden Williams picked up one assist apiece.
 
Leah Allman's record improved to 2-2-0 on the season. The victory was the 23rd of Allman's career. This match marked the 15th career shutout for the junior from Olmsted Township, Ohio.
 
Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Palermo found the back of the net off an assist from Paterline. The mark from Palermo was the first opening half goal that the Vulcans conceded in 2025.
 
SRU took a 2-0 edge in shots into halftime, as well as a 1-0 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Salisbury provided insurance goals in the 51st and 58th minute of the game. Salisbury's first goal of the night was unassisted, and the senior's second tally was assisted by Palermo, making it 3-0 Slippery Rock.
 
Price added to the scoring early in the 67th minute off a pass from Williams, making The Rock's lead 4-0.
 
Burns finished the SRU attack in the 84th minute with an unassisted goal, the first goal of her career.
 
Slippery Rock finished with a 10-0 advantage in shots and 8-0 edge in shots on goal. The Rock took three corner kicks to Cal's two.
 
The Rock played 29 out of the 34 players on their roster.
 
Slippery Rock continues PSAC West play at James Egli Field 4 p.m. Wednesday against Clarion.
