Igims qualifies for steeplechase finals at nationals

Anna Igims qualified for the finals in the steeplechase to lead The Rock women's track & field team Thursday on the opening day of the National Championships.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Anna Igims qualified for the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track & field team on the opening day of the NCAA Division II National Championships Thursday at Colorado State University Pueblo.
 
Igims comfortably took fourth in her heat in the preliminary round of the steeplechase Thursday night to punch her ticket to Friday night's final. With 12 qualifiers advancing, Igims will earn her second straight All-America honor in the event if she finishes the race Friday night.
 
She clocked a time of 10:44.80 in a tactical race Thursday night to easily qualify. The finals will take place Friday night at 9:15 p.m. (ET).
 
Igims was the only SRU female competing Thursday and will also be the only SRU female in action Friday. Sarah Corrie (shot put) and Isabella Bartoletti (javelin) will compete Saturday on the final day of competition.
