Rock to open closing stretch at Edinboro

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team will travel to Edinboro 4 p.m. Thursday at the Edinboro Tennis Courts.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -  The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team will travel Edinboro for another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division showdown 4 p.m. Thursday at the Edinboro Tennis Courts.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock and Edinboro will meet for the 43rd time on Thursday, a series that SRU holds a 36-6 advantage in. The Rock have not lost to the Fighting Scots since 2017. Overall, SRU will carry a seven-match winning streak into Thursday as well as a 28-1 record vs. Edinboro since 1992.
 
Individually, Rock athletes hvae combined for an 8-0 record against Edinboro. Tina Slovak, Dari Sakhanova and Georgie Lancaster all hold a 2-0 record, while Amaia Balaguer Brau and Nicole Kempton have also added a victory.

SAKHANOVA CLOSE TO JOINING ELITE COMPANY
Dari Sakhanova is on the cusp of etching her name among the best to have ever played at SRU. The Rock's junior has amassed 94 wins over her three-year career at The Rock with 47 wins in both singles and doubles competition, putting her just six total wins away from becoming the 15th athlete in program history record 100 career victories.
 
Sakhanova has earned her impressive victory total in sold fashion as she holds a .627 (47-28) singles winning percentage and a .653 (47-25) doubles winning percentage.
 
Kayla Blackburn (2005-09) is The Rock's all-time leader in wins with 191. A full list of The Rock's 100-win club can be viewed HERE.

THREE STRAIGHT CLEAN SHEETS
Slippery Rock's current three-match winning streak has come courtesy of a trio of shutouts. A 7-0 victory over Edinboro would mark the first time since 2008 in which Slippery Rock has posted four consecutive shutout wins.

• Slippery Rock returned to conference play to win two PSAC matches last week, defeating Seton Hill (7-0) at home and earning a road win at Lock Haven (7-0).

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• A key component of Rock tennis during the Matt Meredith era has been strong doubles play, and the 2025 season has been no exception. SRU has earned the doubles point in 12 of 17 matches this year.
 
• Nicole Kempton and Alissia Kivi form Slippery Rock's top doubles pairing. Part of their 22-6 overall record is a 12-4 dual match mark. Their strong record has put The Rock's top doubles team at No. 46 in the latest NCAA Division II doubles rankings released by the ITA Wednesday. 
 
• Another first-year pairing, Amaia Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak are 13-3 out of the second flight, winning five matches in a row.
 
• Georgie Lancaster and Dari Sakhanova have posted victories in two straight matches to push their winning streak to .500 at 7-7.

• Balaguer Brau, the 32nd ranked singles athlete in Division II, leads The Rock's singles lineup with a 21-8 overall record and a 12-5 dual match showing. She's captured a team-high eight wins in a row.
 
• Kivi enters the Edinboro match in possession of an 18-7 overall record and 12-5 in dual matches while competing primarily out of the second flight.
 
• One of four Rock athletes with 15 or more singles wins, Kempton's gone 16-8 overall and 11-3 when playing from the third flight so far in her sophomore campaign. Kempton has won six consecutive matches and seven of her last 10.
 
• The back half of Slippery Rock's singles lineup: Slovak (10-9), Sakhanova (16-9) and Lancaster (10-11) are all on two-match winning streaks. Sakhanova, ranks tied for third on the team in total wins with 16.
