INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team was included in the alphabetized list of the top nine teams in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA DII Women's Tennis Committee unveiled its first set of regional rankings Wednesday.

The NCAA regional rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Tournament. The Atlantic Region consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and select independent institutions within the region's borders.

The first set regional rankings are listed in alphabetical order with no numerical ranking. The committee will rank the teams in numerical order for the first time with the second set of regional rankings, which will be announced April. 23.

All three conference tournament champions within the region receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with the next four highest ranked teams in the final regional rankings receiving at-large bids. Updated regional rankings will be released every Wednesday until the conclusion of the season. The official release of the 48-team field for the 2025 NCAA Tournament will be announced 8:30 p.m. May 5 on NCAA.com.

Slippery Rock was one of just two schools from the PSAC West to appear in the Atlantic Region rankings this week along with Indiana University (Pa.). Bloomsburg University and East Stroudsburg University were the PSAC East representatives.

The MEC and CIAA both had two member schools in the first set of regional rankings as well. The University of Charleston and Fairmont State University appeared from the MEC while Bluefield State and Shaw repped the CIAA.

Rounding out the nine ranked Atlantic Region schools was Salem University – the lone independent women's tennis program in the region.

Only results through April 14 were considered for the first set of regional rankings, Slippery Rock holds an 8-4 record in Division II contests and is 7-2 in Atlantic Region matches. SRU is 2-2 against teams that were also ranked in the Atlantic Region courtesy of wins over Fairmont State and Salem as well as close 4-3 losses to Charleston and IUP.

No stranger to the postseason, Slippery Rock has qualified for the NCAA Tournament 21 times dating back to the 1995-96 season. More recently, SRU has earned a spot in the national tournament in each of the last six years the event has been held.

Winners in its last three matches, all of which have come by way of 7-0 shutouts, Slippery Rock will look to further bolster its tournament resume when it travels to Edinboro for a PSAC West match 4 p.m. Thursday.
