LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's tennis standout
Dari Sakhanova was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Sakhanova earned her first PSAC West weekly honor for her efforts in a pair of Rock victories over West Virginia Wesleyan College (7-0) and Fairmont State University (5-2).
SRU's junior stalwart was one of two Rock athletes – along with
Georgie Lancaster – to record a perfect 4-0 record in singles and doubles play across the two matches. Sakhanova competed out of the fifth singles flight and No. 3 doubles alongside Lancaster.
Sakhanova exited the successful weekend in possession of a 12-7 overall singles record and a 5-3 mark from the fifth flight. She also holds an 11-9 overall doubles record including a 5-5 showing when playing in dual matches with Lancaster.
A former All-PSAC West honoree and the 2023 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, Sakhanova has already racked up 87 career victories (43 singles / 44 doubles). With a large portion of the 2024-25 season still to be played, Sakhanova has the chance to become the 15th athlete in program history to reach 100 wins.
Winners of two straight matches, Slippery Rock is scheduled to open the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division portion of its schedule when it hosts Indiana University (Pa.) 12 p.m. Saturday at the SRU Tennis Courts.
