LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout
Maceo Austin was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Austin earned the honor after leading SRU to a 1-1 record that included a victory over Pitt-Johnstown and a home loss to PSAC West leader Gannon. Monday's award marks the fourth time in the last two seasons that Austin been recognized as the PSAC West's top defender.

Over two games last week Austin averaged 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the field overall and 57.1 percent from 3-point range.

After going for 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals against Gannon, Austin exploded for a career-day as part of The Rock's 84-64 victory over Pitt-Johnstown via a 26-point, seven-rebound, six-steal, four-assist, one-block effort on the road.

Austin's six steals against Pitt-Johnstown are tied for the third most in a single-game by a PSAC West athlete this year while his nine overall steals on the week were the most by a divisional athlete in the last seven days.

On the year, Austin has averaged 16.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game to go with a .483 shooting percentage over 16 starts.

Slippery Rock continues its push towards locking down a PSAC Tournament bid when it hosts Clarion 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Morrow Field House.
