* NCAA Performance Indicator score and rank in the regionÂ
WHAT ARE THE REGIONAL RANKINGS
The NCAA Regional Rankings are the only rankings that matter in terms of selecting which eight teams from each of the four NCAA Super Regions will qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division II Playoffs.
Â
HOW ARE THE RANKINGS COMPILED
The NCAA Committee uses a plethora of data to determine the regional rankings, including the win-loss records, a weighted strength of schedule, wins against teams above .500, multiple performance indicator metrics that weigh the quality of wins and losses, head-to-head competition and more. The NCAA also generates a "performance indicator" score for each team that includes much of the data mentioned above.
Â
PLAYOFF CHANGES THIS YEAR IN DIVISION II
The playoff field will expand from 28 teams to 32 teams this year with each region getting eight teams into the postseason and the No. 1 seeds no longer getting a first round bye. Also new for this year is automatic qualifying bids for each conference champion, which means Super Region One will have four automatic qualifiers and four at-large selections.
Â
SUPER REGION ONE BREAKDOWN
Super Region One includes all teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Mountain East Conference, the Northeast 10 Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Only the PSAC and the CIAA have a championship game, so the two automatic bids in those conferences will come from the winner of the title game, while the automatic qualifiers from the MEC and the NE10 will be the regular season champions. Frostburg State (MEC) and Assumption (NE10) currently lead those respective conferences. Kutztown has already locked up the PSAC East and will meet either Indiana (Pa.), Slippery Rock or Edinboro in the PSAC title game Nov. 15. Virginia Union, Johnson C. Smith, Fayetteville State and Virginia State are all still in contention for a trip to the CIAA title game. Virginia Union and Johnson C. Smith can lock up spots in that game with wins this week.
Â
CONFERENCE BREAKDOWN THIS WEEK
The committee ranks 10 teams in the region, even though only eight spots are available. Of the 10 teams listed in this week's rankings, four are from the PSAC, three are from the CIAA, two are from the MEC and one is from the NE10.
Â
SLIPPERY ROCK BY THE DATA
Slippery Rock currently ranks sixth in the region in performance indicator score (24.375), sixth in the region in winning percentage plus strength of schedule (1.267) and tied for third in the region for the best record against teams above .500 (3-1). Only Kutztown (5-0) and California (5-2) currently have more wins over teams above .500.
Â
SLIPPERY ROCK AGAINST THE CURRENT TOP 10
The Rock are 1-1 against the other teams listed in this week's rankings with a win over No. 5 Indiana (Pa.) and a loss to No. 6 California (Pa.). SRU also has strong wins over Clarion, which currently ranks 13th in the region in NCAA performance indicator score, Shepherd (15th in the NCAA PI) and Franklin Pierce (18th in NCAA PI).
Â
GAMES THAT COULD SHAKE UP THE RANKINGS
Numerous matchups in the final two weeks of the season could shake up the rankings, including the title games in the PSAC and CIAA and multiple regular season games among teams with winning records. Some of those matchups include a showdown between Bentley and Assumption to decide first place in the NE10, big games in the PSAC West this week featuring SRU at Edinboro (5-4) and IUP (6-2) at Clarion (6-3) and multiple games in the CIAA and MEC among teams with above .500 records. If a team outside the top eight in the final rankings were to win one of the automatic bids, it would knock out one of the teams ranked ahead of it.
Â
SLIPPERY ROCK'S PLAYOFF HISTORY
Slippery Rock is attempting to reach the NCAA Playoffs for the seventh straight season and currently owns the second longest active streak among all programs in the nation, trailing only the 10 straight trips for Ferris State. The Rock have not missed the postseason since 2017.
Â
NEXT UP FOR THE ROCK
Slippery Rock's first test will be a noon road game Saturday at a tough Edinboro squad, which enters this week with a 5-4 overall record and a 4-1 record in PSAC West games to sit in a tie with Indiana (Pa.) for first place in the PSAC West. The Fighting Scots currently own the 12th highest NCAA performance indicator score in the region. If IUP were to lose at Clarion Saturday, the winner of the SRU at Edinboro game would win the Western Division and play at Kutztown in the PSAC title game Nov. 15.
ONE MORE SET OF PUBLIC RANKINGS
The Super Region One Playoff picture will get a lot more clear after the results of this Saturday's games. The NCAA Committee will announce one more set of public rankings next Monday, Nov. 10. The official playoff bids will be announced in the NCAA Selection Show Sunday evening, Nov. 16.
